Glossary
The programm I am studying in at Cegep St-Laurent is called Pure and Applied Science. More precisely, classes are more about Chemestry, Physics an Maths. This glossary is more about Chemistery of Solutions, because this subject has a lot of interesting definitions important to understand. .
- Aqueous solution
- It is a solution where the solvent is H20.
- Density
- It is a way to characterize something tangible by its mass devided by its volume.
- Enthalpy
- It is a quantity of energy absorbed or released necessary to a reaction.
- Entropy
- It is a measure that portrays the level of disorder.
- Molality
- It is a way to characterize something tangible by its quantity devided by its solvent's mass.
- Molarity
- It is a way to characterize something tangible by its quantity in moles devided by its solvent's volume.
- Neutralization
- It is the reaction of an acid and base making a neutral solution wich is neither acid or basic.
- Non-electrolytes
- It is a substance dissolving itself in water without producing ions. So it doesn't conduct electricity.
- Normality
- It is a way to charactarize a solute by its equivalent devided by its volume.
- Precipitation
- It is a solid formed by a reaction in a soultion.
- Saturated solution
- It is a solution containing its maximum quantity of dissolvable solute.
- Solubility
- It is a measure that portrays the maximum level of solute that can be dissolved.
- Solute
- It is the substance getting dissolved in a certain solution.
- Solution
- It is the mix of two or more subtances. It can be gaseous, liquid or solid.
- Solvent
- It is the substance dissolving a solute in a certain solution.
- Stoichiometry
- It is the way to right a reaction with its right proportions.
- Strong electrolytes
- It is a substance dissolving itself completely in water by producing ions. So it conducts electricity.
- Supersaturated solution
- It is a solution containing more than its maximum quantity of dissolvable solute.
- Voltage
- It is the difference of potential measured in volts.
- Weak electrolytes
- It is a substance dissolving itself in water by producing moderately ions. So it doesn't conducts electricity much.
